Case Study

The Lausanne Guide

The Lausanne Guide is run by Sarah and Tanya who are Americans who have moved to Lausanne in Switzerland. They integrated into the town and create a hub for locals and for ex-pats who wanted to be able to find out about the town, local events, where to eat, and what to do.

They first met a Le P’tit Bar through a mutual friend in the US.  As they were both new to Lausanne, the cobbled streets, the charming squares, their friendship grew as did their love for the city and the website.  The girl’s love for the city continues, and their website’s content needed a new place to go.

The Problem

Sarah's Dilemma

  • The Lausanne Guide had an existing website but it looked dated, ran slow, and wasn’t the easiest to keep up-to-date.
  • The challenge was to create a website that has the look and feel of a magazine.
  • The website needs to be easily updatable by Sarah and Tanya for blog posts,
  • Needs a directory
  • Needs Events and event listings.

The Solution

What WPDesigns Did

The Lausanne Guide Image 3 (500x500)
  • In order to make sure that each of the criteria was met we planned out the site and how each part would be put together and built.
  • Each section of the site had to work seamlessly and flow into the next, carrying the design throughout the pages, posts, directory, and events. It was decided that the best way to carry this out was to maintain a distinctive font typeface, spacing, and color scheme.  This was needed in each section in order to ensure cohesion.
  • The Events would be created through a specific Events Plugin that allowed for customization of the interface and provided all the functionality needed out of the box.
  • The Directories would be added in as a list as there was not much functionality required.  It was mostly to be a list for several of the areas of interest for Sarah and Tanya.

The Result

  • By partnering with us at WPDesigns we were able to take the designs that the girls had put together and come up with a strategy to turn it into a working, functional website that achieved all of their criteria.
  • The magazine-esque style of the website was achieved by using large images, distinctive typefaces, and colors.
  • Custom WordPress website Theme for The Lausanne Guide.
  • Custom development and buildout for Events, Directory, and other functionality.
  • Mail Chimp Integration for lead capture
  • Directory of local businesses
  • Events listing and calendar
  • Large selection of blog posts that are easy to update and manage going forwards.
  • Easy to update, create, and upload to so they can stay on top of their hundreds of blog posts.
  • Easy to create and add in Directory listings.

Josh was fantastically upbeat, highly responsive, and willing to go the extra mile at each point of our project, even when things became more complicated than we'd first briefed him. Our site looks fantastic in large part to his willingness to build the designs just right. We look forward to working with him again on future projects.
